 Hyakunin-Isshu is an anthology of 100 poems by 100 different poets. It was compiled by Master Fujiwara Teika who was a famous critic and poet from the twelfth through the thirteenth centuries.This poem is called Waka or Tanka . A Waka has 31 syllables , arranged as 5,7,5,7,7.

There are four kinds of Card Game of Hyakunin-Isshu.

1. Obou-san Mekuri (Stack Cards) Play with 3 ~ 6 people

2. Chirashi-dori   Individual game  Play with 2 ~ 8 people

3. Genpei-sen     Team game    Play 3 people to 3 people

4. Kyogi-karuta   Individual game  Play one to one
